The term ‘Goddess of Love’ in Sanskrit translates as “ she who has a fish as her emblem”.
Fish were the first sign of animal life, symbolizing powers of generation and rebirth. In many traditions they inspire knowledge, abundance, and are linked to resurrection.
The lozenge shape was used in Paleolithic times to represent the yoni. This shape, the vesica piscis, translates to “vessel of the fish” and reflects the idea of the feminine as vessel. The feminine deities who rose up from the sea were the earliest culture bringers, preceding the male gods who took fish form.
Sedna is a Sea Goddess of the Inuit people with a close relationship to fish and whales, bringing their bounty and abundance to those who make offerings in her name.
